Dagmawe Berhanu is a poet, writer, and community advocate shaped by both Columbus, Ohio, where they grew up, and Philadelphia, where they’ve spent all of their adult life. A forthcoming MFA candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan, their work navigates grief, recovery, and memory across Black, immigrant, and working-class geographies. Dagmawe currently works as a substance abuse recovery specialist in Philadelphia, and their writing has appeared in Black Warrior Review, The Tulane Review, and Hooligan Magazine. They are the proud parent of Jonathan, a 1 year-old Black cat, who is as Black as he is cat.
