Local am/fm radio is one of the last vestiges of random spontaneity, where your will has no use except for picking the broad genre of music you like. Where the DJ is god, the track is predestined, you have no choice in the matter. Where a schizophrenic could still feel a message is being secretly coded specifically into their world. Where you could still win tickets to an AC/DC cover band playing at an Indian casino. Serendipity still exists on the radio. Through listening and tracking you through your phone, big tech has functionally hijacked serendipity. Seeing an advertisement of something you just talked about with your friend holds no meaning anymore, except for on the radio. Hotel tv a close second. One day there will exist the last DJ on earth. Then we become our own Gods. But there is no fun in that, that’s why God made us.
